About JCP Youth

Every young person matters.

We are a Tasmanian organisation working with young people nationally. Through connection, mentoring and meaningful experiences, we help young people work towards better futures.

Connection with purpose

Supporting young people to become their best.

Our core work is BEAST, a proactive intervention program built around personal development and reform. Our facilitators engage with young people on our streets and provide intensive mentoring, case management, camps and outdoor recreation experiences.

We also deliver seminars and smaller development programs using our own content. Every engagement aims to guide young people towards positive outcomes, support their development and help create future leaders for our communities.

As a charitable organisation, JCP Youth relies on community support, donations and partnerships to sustain this work.

The story behind our name

John “Cobbler” Pounds.

In Portsmouth, England, in the late 1700s and early 1800s, John Pounds devoted his life to helping vulnerable young people. Born into a family with little wealth, he was seriously injured in an accident at 14 and later became a cobbler, making and repairing shoes.

From his modest shop, he shared food and clothing and taught young people the education and life skills they needed. His work showed the lasting difference an ordinary person could make in their community.

JCP takes its name from John “Cobbler” Pounds. His example reminds us to hold to our values, keep young people at the centre of our work and pass those values on.
