Inside BEAST: support that keeps showing up

BEAST brings mentoring, practical experiences and responsive outreach together, with relationships at the centre of the program.

A program is more than a list of activities. For JCP Youth’s BEAST Program, relationships are at the centre: consistent contact, individual support and practical experiences that give young people opportunities to engage.

BEAST is our flagship mentorship and outreach initiative for boys aged 11–17 with complex needs. Delivered across Tasmania, it brings mentoring, case management and personal development experiences together in an intensive program of support.

Support shaped around the young person

The program includes a 12-month support period, with regular contact, individualised case management and personal development planning. Its focus is on helping participants develop leadership, life skills and positive engagement with their communities.

BEAST is designed for young people at risk of entering or escalating within the Child Safety or Youth Justice systems, and who demonstrate a willingness to make positive change in their lives. The program’s referral process helps determine the appropriate pathway and suitability.

Connection through doing

Activity days and overnight camps form part of the program alongside individual support. These practical experiences are designed to support life skills, leadership and community connection, bringing personal development into an active setting.

Responsive outreach is another part of BEAST’s approach. Together, these elements reflect the program’s emphasis on consistent relationships and practical support for young people with complex needs.

Working in partnership

BEAST is delivered in partnership with the Tasmanian Government, through the Department for Education, Children and Young People.

For people supporting a young person, it is important to check the current referral information before making arrangements. The BEAST program page explains the program’s focus and provides the current pathway for enquiries and referrals.
